Johan's Story
Here, there & everywhere
"Anything worthwhile doing, is worthwhile doing well" has always been a guiding motto for Johan, especially when following his passions of interior design, cooking, entertaining, fashion or generally enjoying the finer things in life. With a genuine appreciation of an epicurean life, Johan is a connoisseur of life.
Born and raised in Sweden in an old family of nobility dating back to 16th century, Johan’s upbringing was formal and old-fashioned, as well as, modern and progressive. The family very much took the best of the past with the best of the now, to make a life that was guided by sophistication, taste and style.
Education and languages was always a big focus and each one of the children had to study abroad and become multi-linguists, just like their parents before them. Sunday dinners were a multi-course sit down affair in the formal dining room to which one got dressed up for and proper manors were a given.
After finishing his military service as a Sergeant and Platoon Leader in Sweden, overseeing a platoon of 25men, Johan moved to Paris to study Art History at the famed Sorbonne University. Johan had come out as gay to his family and closest friends during the last year of gymnasium (High School,) but kept it in the closet during the military service. Therefore Paris gave him a chance to break free, experiment with fashion, become a regular at all the hottest establishments, and get a taste of the young Parisian BCBG lifestyle (BCBG = “Bon Chic, Bon Genre” Wiki def: “expression used in France to refer to…stylish members of Paris's upper class…typically well-educated, well-connected, and descended from "old money" families, preferably with some aristocratic ancestry”
It was therefore quite a culture shock when Johan continued his studies at the private school Valparaiso University in Indiana, USA. Moving from Paris to Indiana wasn't always the smoothest of transitions and the fashions no one would raise an eyebrow about in Paris, turned heads in "Valpo." Johan nonetheless focused on his Economics studies and stayed true to himself as one of the very few out students. By the sophomore year, Johan was on the Student Senate representing the International Students, his junior year he became the President of the schools largest student run organization, and named "Student of the Year," while his senior year he was selected by the President's Office to represent the student body in his advisory committee.
Having studied Economics, French and Art History, Johan's goal had always been to enter a career in Diplomacy, so after graduating, Johan worked for the Consular Corps Collage "CCC", a US based diplomatic organization that educate and is a resource for all foreign counsels in the United States. Part of Johan's responsibilities at the CCC was to organize their big annual meeting, with speaker from the State Department, Ambasadors and business leaders. Johan's style and taste in combination with a keen eye for details was noticed and recognized by the participants.
